The Center for Youth day services are open from 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday. Youth (both residents and non-residents) come for a variety of services geared toward getting them on their feet. 273 unduplicated Youth were served by the day services in Fiscal Year 2007.
- GED Class - Our GED class is non-traditional and individualized to each student's needs. Additional tutoring is also available.
- Job Training and Placement - Our job classes help youth get and keep a job--teaching them to prepare resumes, coaching them on how to interview, and assisting with placement.
- Garden Rangers - This lawn & landscaping program provides on the job training for youth. The program helps kids learn practical skills and the responsibilities of employment, while earning a paycheck. The Garden Rangers are currently in contract with the Garden District Commission and Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association.
- Service Management - Clients are assigned a service manager who works with them to create a plan for their lives and to offer services to reach their goals.
- Counseling - Individual, family and group counseling is available.
- Legal Services - Legal support and referral services are provided.
- Health Care - Free off-site health care is offered by the Institute for Research & Education in Family Medicine.
- Substance Abuse Services – CHMO collaborates with Preferred Family Healthcare to provide addiction management services for youth struggling with drug or alcohol issues. The educational groups are available to all youth in CHMO programs.
- Drop in Center – The Drop in Center opened in March 2007. It is located on North Kingshighway and is open 1:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Monday through Friday. A variety of activities are offered at the drop in center.
- Street Smarts - In this Life Skills series, we help youth with budgeting, time management, and other things they need to know to be successful.
- Recreation - Offered every Friday and varies by the season.
- Physical Activity – Youth participate in basketball camp, dance, open gym, and other organized sporting events to increase their physical activity and overall health and wellness.
- Art – Youth create their own works of art through many different mediums. Youth paint, draw, write poetry, and enjoy photography. As part of the arts programming, youth have visited the art museum, Fox Theatre, the Black Repertory Theater, and the Muny.
