On Friday, we celebrated the amazing CHMO graduates. We had 19 GED grads as well as 4 high school graduates! One of the highlights of the ceremony were the words of gratitude and hope given by our students. All of them were grateful to GED instructor, Kevin Werner and the other program staff for supporting them and helping them reach their goal. Angela Rusan, a former CHMO community youth, spoke to the youth about the potential they all possess and encouraged them to follow their dreams. Angela just graduated from SIUE and will begin a Master’s Program in Sociology this fall. Her testimony was proof to all of us that the work we do is having a profound impact. The celebration was capped off by a delicious BBQ and party in our parking lot! Way to go graduates!

Sean, one of our TLP residents, got a once in a lifetime chance to meet with Tim Gunn of Project Runway and talk to him about his passion for fashion design. Sean showed Tim some of his design sketches and Tim was impressed! He let Sean know he has talent and encouraged him to pursue his dream and get the education needed to succeed in the industry. Sean has been accepted to AIU (American InterContinental University) in Atlanta and will leave us in the fall to pursue his Bachelor’s in Fashion Design. We’re so proud of all he’s accomplished!

Several of our youth recently completed the first ”Dream Big Challenge.” They spent 10 weeks working with the Dream Big Team doing various excercises and programs designed to help them be the best person they can be. TLP resident Bryan, the overall challenge winner, had this to say about the program:
“The Dream Big Challenge brought out the best in me. It inspired me to do the best I can even when I doubt myself. It helped me to better my attitude and be more independent. This program helped me to develop goals for my life. In fact, I have already completed one of my goals which was to get my GED. I successfully obtained my GED on April 13, 2010! Thank you…DREAM BIG!
